I have a friend that let her 11yo play Grand Theft Auto. I don't play it but I know it's not a kids game by reputation. I don't think stores can even sell it to kids. So she had to buy it for her son. Am I the only one that thinks that is wrong? Is the game not as bad as they say?

These are good questions.
GTA does indeed have content and situations not suitable for young players. However, this raises the question of when it is alright for a child to play it. I don't believe there's a magical transformation that takes place overnight, going from juvenile too young to handle GTA to mature enough for GTA the next day. Every child is different, too. I would imagine that's simply a call for parents able their individual child. Do they think their kid is personally ready for GTA content. Maybe one household feels their 11-year-old is ready while another doesn't believe their 13-year-old is mature enough for GTA.

The nonsense about "murder simulators" desensitizing players has been widely disproven. Studies have found no real link between video games and lack of empathy. In fact, at least some studies found the opposite. One suggested that, at a subconscious level, players feel guilty about awful things they virtually did and that led to increased empathy in real life.

I played Gta and never did any stuff from Gta. Don't know nobody that has. We played games like that at a young age.

I was an adult by the time GTA III came out, which is when the series blew up in popularity, but I knew plenty of younger gamers playing it. None of them grew up to be homicidal maniacs or criminals.

i dont buy what scientist say. I only trust jesus. Everything doesn't have to be science versus religion. In this case, science isn't really involved. It's not scientists that did the aforementioned studies. Psychologists studied the affects of video games on players.

You make it sound like you're trying to suggest being knowledgeable about something is a bad thing. How dare someone know what they are talking about.

I was just thinking. If this topic was in the relationship board the title would take on a very different meaning.
