The new WRC game comes out in a few days. I pre-ordered so I can play on Halloween. Unfortunately, I still have a long way to go in Forza Motorsport, but I reckon I'll have to put it on the back burner to hit WRC and then return to Forza later. This WRC is the first after the license went to Codemasters, who have a history of other great racing games including DiRT, GRiD, and the Formula One games since like 2010 or something like that. My understanding is that the WRC game was originally going to be the next DiRT Rally but is now WRC instead since they acquired the license.

That looks good if thats your thing. I don't think I can do rally. That looks rough.

It is. It's quite possibly the hardest form of motorsport I've virtually done. F1 is difficult, too, because F1 cars do everything so rapidly that your brain is pushed to or even beyond its limits.

I think that might be more interesting to me than going around in circles in Nascar.

Why does rally need a passenger? That is a good question. Hopefully Yeti can give us an interesting answer.

Why does rally need a passenger? They're not a passenger but a co-driver. They have pace notes for countless details about each stage they run and they read them to the driver a bit in advance so the driver knows what is coming up. With most forms of motorsport you run lap after lap, maybe dozens or even hundreds of laps around a single circuit, and you get to know that circuit very well, but in rally you run a stage once and then that's it. Further, each of those stages can be several miles and many dozens of turns, not to mention countless other details along the way, and that's a lot to get to know but you run it once. Without a co-driver reading you pace nots letting you see into the future, you're left to react to things when you reach them, which is too late to respond, since you're pushing the car to the very limits. You would have to drive the stages much more conservatively than you could with information given to you by the co-driver. It's a lot to process, though. It's mentally taxing. Not only are you going off of the information coming to you from all your senses, but simultaneously processing the information coming from the co-driver.

I haven't got to do a ton but it's going alright. I'm using my wheel do it's a workout. The presentation is cool, at least as far as being presented like it's coverage of an actual championship. It doesn't look quite like I expected, graphically, but gameplay is the most important part.

I found this comparison of this and Dirt Rally 2.
I think I see what you mean. It looks good but in this video it doesn't look better than Dirt, and I asume Dirt is a lot older. Maybe that just means Dirt looked amazing.

In fairness, it only shows dates in the picture displayed before you click on it. In the video it doesn't have dates.

Something I find with the current generation is that there's good-looking games but I often find myself thinking how it's hard noticing much difference between what we do now and what we did in the previous generation. I'm not sure that the next generation will bring any glaring, obvious visual upgrades over what we have now.

I find I really hate hairpins. Either my car doesn't rotate nearly enough or it swings too wildly and I spin off the road, maybe facing boulders or a wall.
