I recently saw mention of Storm of the Century on another site and that got me thinking about how great it was and that I haven't watched it in a long time, so I did a bit ago. I still really enjoy it and though it was a television adaptation from 1999 I feel it still holds up really well.
People think of Stephen King for horror but I don't see his works as horror so much as thrillers. I don't see Storm of the Century as horror but a thriller. What I like about it, as well as other works like Needful Things and The Mist is that they delve into human nature. The Mist, for example, shows how people can get when they're afraid and subject to crazy talk and hysteria. Storm of the Century gets into the dark secrets people carry with nobody being the wiser.
