Should children receive sex education in school, should they be taught abstinence, or should they be taught nothing sex-related at all?

I feel it is incredibly reckless to give children inadequate sex education. Probably the worst thing we can do is nothing, and the second-worst is to teach abstinence. Youths will learn one way or another, but if we leave it up to them it's hard to say how much misinformation they will run with. I remember when I was in school, and kids talk, and I remember the awful misinformation that went around. Abstinence is a joke. Don't get me wrong; I'd prefer my kids not be sexuality acting until they're older, but I know how they are because I was them once, and people do it all the time. If they're going to, they need correct information to work with. Anything else is egregiously irresponsible.

Being that this is strictly about being taught specifically in school, I feel like this might fit better in the new political board. Now, if we broaden it to include education from parents, maybe it would fit better here.

They're still going to do what they want to do. I don't get why there's parents so naive since they were teenagers once themselves. If they choose to abstain, great, but they might not and if they don't then they need to know what they're doing.

I think it should be up to parents to teach there kids these things. Parents often are no better than kids when it comes to misinformation. How many parents would try pushing abstenance and in so doing teach the kids incorrect information? How many would just insist "Don't have sex," and that's the end of their "education?" I doubt many parents will actually tell their kids all the gritty, detailed facts they need to know and understand, but they need to know it.

If they aren't taught properly by schools or parents, they will teach each other, and not necessarily correctly. I remember the garbage passed around by my classmates, like standing on your head to somehow prevent pregnancy, that if you go so long without sex you're a virgin again, eating certain foods increases or decreases chances of pregnancy, or somehow the phases of the moon makes a difference. That's horrible.

i dont like the school thinking they know whats best for my kid better then i do. You're talking about parents' beliefs, but beliefs aren't knowledge and beliefs can be ignorant. For example, there are people that believe vaccines are bad and can even cause problems like autism. They're dead wrong no matter how strongly they believe it.
