Tree hugging hippies are putting gray wolves back in Colorado. Lauren Bobert and ranchers dont want them cause they will kill livestock. Hunters dont want them cause they will decrease the number of elk and other animals. They say ranchers will be paid 15k for animals killed by the wolves. Of course thats tax money paying wolves to eat livestock. www.newsweek.com/wolves-reintroduced-colorado-lauren-boebert-1853656

This is difficult. Too often people act like everything is simple black and white when the reality is it's usually more gray. Often you can make valid arguments for both sides of an issue, and as long as both sides have legitimately true arguments then it seems like neither can be absolutely right or wrong. This scenario with the wolves seems to me to be just like that.
I get ranchers/farmers not wanting to lose livestock, but the article says they'd be financially compensated. I get not wanting tax dollars to go to compensation for wolves eating livestock when the livestock could have not been eaten had we not reintroduced the wolves.
I don't necessarily agree with the hunters, though. Wolves wouldn't eat elk, deer, or whatever else into oblivion. They reach a natural balance. Years back they were reintroduced to Yellowstone and, when last I read about it, everything returned to a natural balance. If there's more food available, you will get more wolves, but wolf numbers won't exceed a balance with available food. Before wolves were reintroduced to Yellowstone, animals they would naturally prey upon were exploding and that stressed the available plant life, but then wolves brought everything back into balance.
Here in my state wolves were killed off over a hundred years ago, as I recall, and deer are everywhere. They don't have natural predators keeping them in check.
Personally, I love wolves, so I'm biased in favor of the wolves. I do appreciate valid arguments against them, though, and I won't deny them or pretend they're wrong.

If hippies get wolves and farmers get compensated for animals killed, doesn't everyone win?

People can just go to a zoo to see wolves. I dont see what good it is releasing them back into the wild to just trouble ranchers.

I already acknowledged that I appreciate concerns for livestock but they've also been found to be a key part of ecosystems, bringing them in balance, so people can make valid arguments to either side.

Would it be much different from your other predators? Don't you already have bears, coyotes, and mountain lions?

Would it be much different from your other predators? Don't you already have bears, coyotes, and mountain lions? It varies from state to state. Florida even has alligators and pythons. My state once had wolves but not since they were killed off roughly 200 years ago. We have bears but just black bears and not many of them. We have bobcats. My dad said he saw a mountain lion in his youth but that was ever so long ago and officially they aren't here. We have coyotes. I'm not as familiar with the predators of Colorado. I've been in Colorado, but only at the airport in Denver for a layover. On a side note, our state doesn't officially have panthers, but they've been seen by lots of people, including myself. I recently ran into a related article I meant to share but forgot.
