I'm not from Texas but in our state we also don't officially have panthers but many people have seen them, including myself. My parents and siblings have had several encounters with at least one (not sure if it's always the same one or different ones.) I saw what I thought was one but didn't get a good look at it as it hussled across a tall grassy field, bounding across it like a house cat but bigger. On another occasion a friend and I saw one sitting beside the road as we both drove by in separate vehicles and couldn't wait to ask each other if we both saw the panther. His mother observed one with binoculars at close range from her window for an extended period of time; enough to be fully confident in it being a panther.
