I haven't had toast since I was a kid but it was white bread with butter and then sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar.

I'm not sure if you guys on the other side of the pond have that either but I think he just means that. Normally even here we don't call it "garlic toast" but there are store-bought garlic breads labeled as "garlic toast." From my observations, store-bought garlic bread is sold as a whole, uncut loaf while garlic toast is pre-sliced. We also have garlic knots, garlic twists, and garlic rolls. It's all basically the same thing but in different forms.

Actually, now that I'm looking at the boxes, they say "Texas toast" but it's garlic bread so maybe he called it garlic toast.
