Is anyone planting anything in the spring? What are people planting? Crops? Flowers? What kind? My wife plants flowers. Theirs flower beds along the front of the house. I havent planted vegetables in years but thought about it for this spring. Thought about corn and tomatos.

We plan on planting crops in a small garden. We live in town so we have limited yard space.
Last year we planted watermelon and corn, but we messed up. I tried starting the seeds in little degradable cups and was going to plant any that sprouted in the ground but after several weeks none did so I planted them anyway and hoped for the best. A small percentage of them eventually did grow but by then it was weeks later than would have been ideal. The corn ran out of time and only a few melons made it. It didn't help that deer are most watermelon buds.
This year we will go straight to the ground, and I want to put something up to deter deer. This year we're looking to do watermelon, because the kids love it, and pumpkins so they can carve them in the fall.

Watermelon would be nice but they need a lot of space compared to other plants. I could grow many cornstalks in the space of one watermelon plant.

It's too late for me. We're well into summer now.
