Back in winter 07/08 I was thinking about how all the guys at work were talking about football (American football, or "handball" as I call it since feet almost never touch the ball.) They'd dive deep into it, comparing players and teams, who is strong at this and weak at that, and that sort of thing. I couldn't be paid to pretend to be interested.
It got me thinks that I wished I had something I could religiously follow and get that interested in. I thought about all the racing games I played and figured maybe motorsports might be my thing, but where to start? I knew I wasn't into in ovals, and decided to jump to the highest tier of motorsport - F1.
I started watching F1 early into the 2008 season and never stopped. From there I broadened to other motorsport series, and eventually even a touch of NASCAR.
Back then Fox covered NASCAR, and satellite channels covered F1 and IndyCar. The Speed network covered a lot of other series. I watched as much as I could, and with F1 even watched practice and qualifying. Then Speed went under and I was limited to F1, IndyCar, and NASCAR.
Now we don't even have satellite television, to save money since it was barely watched in our house, so I haven't watched any racing in months. It leaves me feeling like there's a hole in my life.
