Potentially Asked Questions
This is not a FAQ because a FAQ is Frequently Asked Questions but we are new so we can't yet have frequent questions. Instead we will anticipate questions and answer those.
Why "Fluffy Peeps?"
It's not about the marshmallow treats but people. When creating the board, "Fluffy" was already taken, as was "Fluffy People" so we are "Fluffy Peeps."
What is "fluffy?"
This is actually a bit difficult to explain. It originates with kids that loved a fuzzy winter outfit that their father wore. The fuzziness, described as "fluffy," became attributed to their father. Fluffiness then became a positive attribute. It then became a potential attribute of people and then things in general. Fluffiness is an abstract concept, but the jist of it is goodness, positivity, pleasantness, and things along those lines. If we love someone, they're fluffy. Doing something nice for someone you care about is fluffy. Hurting someone is de-fluffy, as it de-fluffs people.
Why be so uptight about how people are treated?
The world is full of bad people, bad things, awful things that happen, unfairness, injustice, cruelty, and so forth, and the last thing that it needs is more negativity. The internet has become such a sesspool of vile behavior. You can go on Facebook and join a group of people that are all interested in a particular topic, in theory to discuss that shared interest, and still find people personally attacking you without provocation. It's like so many people assume you have to behave that way online. We like to believe that we deserve better.
Why can't we use profanity here if we're adults?
For one thing, we don't count on being only adults here. This was intended as a family-friendly board for all ages, not just adults. We want content to be acceptable for any age group, including younger fluffy peeps. Additionally, vulgar language drags down the atmosphere. If we start cussing up the place it makes the community more coarse, more abrasive, which is less fluffy. Abrasive language can easily become rude behavior.
Isn't the minimum age 13?
Yes, there is a legal limit of 13, though we did not know about that at first. Sites cannot legally store user data for users below the age of 13. However, there is no way that they can realistically verify ages of users. Almost nothing on the internet forces proof of age. For several decades sites ask for age but anybody has been able to type in anything or click that they are at least 18, with no proof required. There is also the potential for someone under the age of 13 to view the board as a visitor without registering. They just wouldn't be able to post.
