spair the rod spoil the child. If you're suggesting that kids need a spanking or they won't learn or they'll turn out bad, I never got spanked and I'm highly respected. I've had people joke "What would Yeti (I'm not giving my real name) do?" in reference to "What would Jesus do?" The same goes for my siblings. My brother has a degree in physics and mathematics and I am an ordained minister with an engineering degree. My kids are always highly praised by their teachers for their remarkable behavior in school and outstanding academic performance. Parents might mean well when spanking their kids, but kids can learn the wrong message. People like to think they're teaching respect but fear and respect aren't the same thing. I want my kids to do what's right, not out of fear of punishment but because they believe it's what's right. Spanking children can inadvertently teach them that physical violence is the correct response to people upsetting you. "I upset mommy so mommy hurt me. This is what you do to people that upset you." Mom might argue, "No, you do wrong and suffer consequences," but mom's intended message might not be how the child sees it and the lesson learned.

My kids love dogs and all things with dogs, so I looked up dog games for Xbox. I wanted something like Nintendogs but I couldn't find anything close enough. I did find several but they were often things like a sides sidescrolling platform shooter with a dog walking like a man and shooting enemies with guns. I got them Animal Shelter because it felt nicer. You take in animals, take care of them and fix them up, and then find them good homes. I partially got it for me, too, because I've been very down lately.

That sounds like a relaxing, happy change from the typical games of blood or frantic action. Ever play Animal Crossing? It's a Nintendo game.

Up in the middle of town there is a park of sorts that the town decorates for Christmas every year. They put up a lot of trees decorated by different members of the community, sometimes businesses or churches but mostly families, typically in memorial of someone they've lost. The kids and I walked up there to see the decorations. My daughter brought her clarinet to play Christmas music up there.

It's been rough at the Yeti home lately. They say when it rains it pours, and it's been a monsoon lately. Everything falling apart around me has had me a nervous wreck. I went to the doctor for medication to help cope but it could take a couple weeks to do anything. In the mean time, it's been a struggle. Needing to be here for my kids is all I've really had to prop me up.
One of the heap of problems that came up in a short span of time is I realized my wife's car's rear brakes were rubbing. I suspected the calipers weren't fully opening. I didn't want anyone driving it until it's fixed but I had to wait a week for someone to get me in.
We got it fixed today. I was right, it was the rear calipers. They worn into the rotors. One caliper had to be pried off. When it was done and I paid for the repairs, they said my wife normally brings it in so they were surprised it was me. I said I was afraid of a wheel locking up and the car veering off into a tree or something, and if that was going to happen taking it to the shop I'd rather it happen to me. They said it probably wasn't far from doing that.

At least your heart (Marge) is in the right place. I am *NOT* going to comment on anything religious....at least for now. (discretion is the better part of valor) I'll leave this comment, a saying that I like is "When the going gets tough, the tough get going".

I assume you mean well but I feel like it's in poor taste jumping on this as an opportunity to push religion. It's funny how when bad things happen to some people it's God's punishment but bad things also happen to Christians and that isn't punishment but God testing people or whatever spin they want to put on it. One place gets hit by a tornado and it's God punishing heathens, but God hits a church with a tornado while they're worshiping him and it's God testing his people.

There is sooo much I could add but this is a thread about family. If someone is brave enough they can create a thread about religion(s) but...they had best beware, as I am quite adept at deprogramming and dedoctrination.

I noticed yesterday evening that one of my furnace floor vents had no air flow from it. I was afraid the duct to it came off under the house somewhere and hot air that should have been coming in the house was instead heating the crawl space. This morning I noticed another had no air. Concerned about what awful thing was going on under there and as cold as it is I really need all the heat inside the house. I tried getting someone to come look at it but they're swamped until a week from now.
So, I went under myself. What's the big deal? Well, I'm somewhat claustrophobic. It's not so bad at the entrance where I can at least be on hands and knees but the farther I go the tighter it gets.
Nothing came apart. It collapsed. Cats hide out under the neighborhood housed and one was under there. I bet the cat collapsed it. I mustered the courage to get to it. I de-collapsed it and the vents are blowing again.
On the plus side, I don't see any leaks or anything.
